Without first identifying the purpose of confidence, confusion will misguide the journey of gaining this valuable trait. We must understand what confidence is and why we need it. Reason for confidence!

Life is given to us by God, but we don’t know what to do, why we live, or how to live. Yet a time is continuously moving to the future, and if you haven’t figured it out, the destination is death. Therefore, without choice, I become. In other words, being is never stationary, so we transition from I am to I become because our physical body is chained into a timing belt. We are free to choose our paths through (“To be or not to be, that is first question” – the following question will be “How should we then live?” -please research Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer’s video series and book).

We have enormous amounts of inherent potential and capacities. Now, it is our instinctive desire and duty to actualize all those energies in our lives. That is the difference between the creative process and doom. Thus, if anyone sees the light, life will be full of hope and belief (confidence) to be actualized; if not, life will be empty and full of darkness. Therefore, the reason for confidence is to give us the freedom to live (act). This is all about creative processing for making a unique person. We seek to accomplish  “Autonomy” (being myself). This is the goal of the metaphysics realm. The goal of the spiritual realm will be “Self-deny” to have congruence between soul and spirit. This will be the difference between belief and faith. An entity is the main governing agency for life. Therefore, belief or confidence can be governed by humans, but faith is totally governed by GOD, and GOD alone. Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” [NIV]

Victor E. Frankl wrote in his book Man’s Search for Meaning:

“The prisoner who had lost faith in the future – his future – was doomed. With his loss of belief in the future, he also lost his spiritual hold; he let himself decline and became subject to mental and physical decay.”

Without confidence, the future cannot promise anything positive but instead is doomed. Perhaps the future will not even exist.

As quoted in my “Attention” post, William James declared:

“Experience is what I agree to attend to… And the faculty of voluntarily bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character, and will. No one is compos sui (Latin for master of one’s self) if he has it not.”

Please refer to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and note that the top level is self-actualization. We come into this life with potential and latent energies. We have total freedom of what we can do with it. The reason for confidence is to make use of all the gifts you receive with the hope of the future! Now, the future belongs to you! You can shape the future any way you want it! This is being, and becoming who you are. Therefore “What is that I want? “What is I want to do now and for what?” is a natural question to ask. These questions inherent means and end.

I am actualizing my life with all the gifts I have received from God through confidence. I am the only one in the whole world (I am singing in the shower: song goes like this “I am soooo beautiful to me!” because of God’s GRACE). That is why we need confidence. I would like to remind you of the subtitle for my definition of confidence, “Insight into reality”. Another slogan I teach in my class is “Everything that happens in this world must happen in someone’s mind first” – here is another Bible verse – “what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11:3b [NIV]

I know that God created this universe with his words. Well, this is not confidence, it is faith. “What is the difference between confidence and faith?” – article soon to be posted
